In a salon, two things have to line up: the therapist and the room. A paper diary sees neither: you double-book a room, promise a facial at 2pm when the couch is taken, and end up phoning to move somebody.

Courses that track themselves

Courses are your cash flow: six sessions paid up front, and a client who comes back. But the moment they are written on a card, nobody knows how many sessions are left, or how long the card has been sitting there.

Every course is recorded, counted down at each visit and visible to the client. When two sessions are left and the expiry date is coming up, a message reminds her — it is the most effective nudge in the trade.

A deposit on long treatments

An hour-and-a-quarter facial or a full set of nails ties up a therapist and a room. A client who does not turn up costs you that hour, and often another client you turned away that morning.

The deposit is taken at booking on the longer treatments and for new clients. The reminder goes out the day before, cancelling is still possible within the notice you have set, and the slot that frees up goes back out to the clients waiting.

The listing that gets you picked

A new client is comparing three salons a few streets apart. What decides it: photos of your work, a price list she can read, and recent reviews. Price only comes afterwards.

The review request goes out the day after the treatment. Each client's history — products used, sensitivities, usual therapist — stays to hand, which makes the second appointment better than the first.
